Worst Question Ever

Recently I was asked (what I deem to be one of the worst questions in the world): Why are you still single?

Look, if I knew the answer to that, then I probably wouldn't still be single.
Some people think I'm being too picky. Maybe I am. But I'm not going to settle for someone who doesn't make me completely happy.  I'm in the market for a particular model. What model is that? Well there's a question that I'm glad you asked.

For me, the perfect man:
-makes me laugh...All. The. Time.
-thinks family is numero uno
-likes that I speak Spanglish
-keeps his nose hairs trimmed...trust me, I know you have it. I do NOT need to see it! And speaking of hair...
-has just the right amount of hair-somewhere between an olympic swimmer and a yeti
-loves sports as much as I do, particularly those played by a certain team of Cardinals
-believes in God
-gets out on the dance floor, shamelessly
-cooks
-cleans
-likes playing board games
-doesn't smoke
-doesn't need to drink to have a good time
-thinks that my mom is awesome and that my dad is hilarious
-can hang with my siblings
-loves to travel
-appreciates how I talk and sing to myself
-plays an instrument (preferably the guitar or piano)
-doesn't feel threatened by my love for Justin Timberlake
-loves kids
-works hard
-values education
-loves to travel
-is trustworthy
-is my best friend

These are in no particular order. Some may be negotiable, but many are deal-breakers. I realize that I may never find someone who is "perfect" for me and that's okay-I have 30 years of proof that I will be better than fine.

So while I might not be able to answer the question, "Why are you still single?", obviously I can answer (and encourage) the question, "What do you look for in a man?"
And I'd love to hear, "Have you met my friend, [insert potential man's name here]? I think he'd be perfect for you."

You hear me, Cupid?

Flippin' February

So, yeah, it' s been a month since I've blogged. What can I say? It's that time again. There's a time every year when all I want to do is hibernate...and that time is called February. Between the unfavorable weather, lack of daylight, 5 million papers to grade, report cards to complete, conferences to hold, and the impending Singles Awareness Day, I just want to crawl under the covers until March.

But not this year. This year is different.
Yes, the above-mentioned atrocities are still in play. But I don't even care. 'Cause this year, I am going...to be an aunt!

So rather than hibernate, I'd like to just go ahead and fast forward to July 29th when my little McNugget is expected to arrive!

I could not be happier for Micah and Kate to become parents, for Mom and Dad to become grandparents, and for Jill and I to become aunts! I am already on the onesie hunt and am welcoming any advice from those of you who are already aunts or uncles.

At first I thought that it was a girl, but now I am leaning towards boy. It really doesn't matter to me though...I love him or her already! We will find out the first week of March for sure!

Check out Kate's blog for a precious video all about our little baby-on-the-way: http://www.southerndwellings.blogspot.com/
Be sure to laugh it up when you hear me feel the need to clarify whether Micah and Kate are welcoming a real baby or another dog.

Speaking of dogs, Kate says that this will be Pete after dealing with a new baby:

Micah, on the other hand, says that he and Pete had a talk, and he is ready and excited to be a big brother.
If there was one word I could use to describe this picture, it would definitely be 'ready'.

So yeah, this year instead of flippin' the bird to February, I'm flippin' for joy at the prospect of holding my new niece or nephew in my arms in the coming months.
Aunt Jackie has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?
